How Profhilo differs from filler
Profhilo contains one of the highest concentrations of pure hyaluronic acid available in an injectable treatment. Unlike a dermal filler, it is not designed to hold a shape where it is placed. Instead it spreads smoothly beneath the skin over the following day or so, hydrating the tissue as it goes.
As well as hydrating, it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin firm and springy. The result is a gradual improvement in texture, elasticity and radiance across a whole area, rather than a change to the contours of your face.
So Profhilo will not lift a cheekbone or define a jawline. It suits people whose main concern is that their skin looks tired, crepey or dehydrated, and who want subtle, natural rejuvenation.
Face, neck, décolletage and hands
Profhilo can be used on the face, neck, décolletage and the backs of the hands. The neck, chest and hands often show changes in skin quality before the face does, and they respond well to this kind of treatment.
Profhilo Body is a separate product designed for larger areas, such as the upper arms, knees, abdomen and décolletage, where skin laxity and crepiness are the concern. It is priced per area.
If your main concern is loss of structure in the mid and lower face rather than skin quality, Profhilo Structura may be a better fit. We will explain the difference at consultation.
The treatment course
Profhilo is given through a small number of injections at set points, chosen so the product spreads evenly. A course of two treatments, four weeks apart, is recommended, and improvements continue to develop over four to eight weeks.
Results last approximately six months. To maintain them, most people have one treatment every three to six months.
Profhilo at Avismo in St Ives
Profhilo at Avismo is carried out by Karen, a registered nurse since 2000 and a nurse prescriber working in aesthetics since 2014, or by Lorna, an HCPC-registered operating department practitioner with more than three years in aesthetics. The clinic is Save Face accredited and was recommended in The Tweakments Guide in January 2026.
It is a quick appointment, which makes it easy to fit around work whether you are coming from St Ives, Huntingdon or further afield.

Safety
What you need to know before profhilo
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Known allergy to hyaluronic acid
- Active infection, cold sores or inflamed skin at the treatment site
- Autoimmune conditions or immunosuppressive treatment, assessed individually
Common and expected
- Small raised bumps at the injection points, which usually settle within 24 to 48 hours
- Mild swelling, redness or tenderness
- Occasional bruising
Serious risks
Serious complications are rare with Profhilo, as it is placed at set points chosen for safety. The main risk is infection at an injection site, which is minimised with careful aseptic technique. As with any hyaluronic acid product, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed, and you are given a number to call if you have any concerns after treatment.
Aftercare
- Do not massage the injection points, as the product needs to spread on its own
- No makeup over the injection points for twelve hours
- No strenuous exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 hours
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
- No facials, peels or other treatments over the area for two weeks
- Keep your skin well protected from the sun while it recovers

Questions
Will Profhilo change the shape of my face?
No. Profhilo does not add volume or change your contours. It improves the quality of the skin itself, so the change is in hydration, firmness and texture.
How many treatments will I need?
A course of two treatments, four weeks apart, is recommended to begin with. After that, most people have one treatment every three to six months to maintain results.
When will I see results?
Improvements develop gradually over four to eight weeks as your skin responds. The small bumps you have on the day are not the result, and they settle within a day or two.
Is it painful?
Most people find it quick and very manageable, with mild discomfort as each injection is given.
What is Profhilo Body?
A version of Profhilo designed for larger areas, such as the arms, knees, abdomen and décolletage. It is £550 per area.
Do I need a consultation first?
Your consultation is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. It is where we check your medical history, talk through what you would like to change, and agree a plan together.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to move or cancel your appointment, so the time can be offered to someone else. Deposits and late-cancellation terms are explained when you book through our online booking system.

Yes. The clinic is at 28 Edison Road, St Ives, PE27 3LF, roughly 15 minutes' drive from Huntingdon and around 30 minutes from St Neots and Cambridge.
