What exosomes are
Exosomes are microscopic vesicles released by cells to pass signals to one another. They carry proteins, growth factors and other messengers that play a part in repair, inflammation and renewal. In skin treatments, they are used to support the skin's own healing processes.
Purasomes is the range we use at Avismo. The products are applied to the skin rather than injected, and they are used straight after a treatment that opens up the skin's surface, such as microneedling, so the exosome complex can reach the deeper layers more easily.
What the evidence says
Exosomes are one of the newer areas in aesthetics, and it is important to be clear about that. Laboratory research and early clinical studies are encouraging, particularly for supporting recovery after microneedling and laser treatments, but the research in skin is still emerging and larger, long-term studies are needed.
In practice, many people find their skin settles more quickly after treatment and looks calmer, more hydrated and more radiant within days. We present exosomes as a way to support and enhance your skin treatment, not as a stand-alone cure, and we will always give you a realistic picture at your consultation.
Choosing the right Purasomes complex
There are three Purasomes complexes on our menu. NC150+ Skin Nutri Complex is aimed at tired and ageing skin. SGC100+ Skin Glow Complex is chosen for dull, damaged skin and uneven pigmentation. HSC50+ Hair and Scalp Complex is used for thin and damaged hair.
A course of 3 treatments spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart is usually recommended. Each session is £225, or £600 for a course of three. Your practitioner will match the complex to your skin or scalp after assessing it at your free consultation.
Pairing exosomes with microneedling
Exosomes are applied straight after a microneedling treatment. The microneedling creates controlled micro-channels that trigger collagen production, and the exosome complex is applied over the freshly treated skin to support recovery and boost the overall result.

What happens at your appointment
- 01 We talk through your skin concerns, medical history and which Purasomes complex suits you.
- 02 Your skin is cleansed, and numbing cream is applied if microneedling is part of your treatment.
- 03 Microneedling is carried out across the treatment area to create fine micro-channels.
- 04 The Purasomes exosome complex is applied over the treated skin and gently worked in.
- 05 You are given written aftercare and advice on when to book your next session.
Safety
What you need to know before exosomes
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active infection, cold sores or broken skin in the treatment area
- Active acne with pustules or cysts in the treatment area
- Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) in the last six months
- A history of keloid scarring
- Active cancer or immunosuppressive treatment, assessed individually
Common and expected
- Mild redness or sensitivity for a day or so
- Tightness or light dryness as the skin settles
- Pinpoint marks from microneedling for the first day
Serious risks
Exosomes are applied to the skin rather than injected, and the main risks are those of the microneedling that accompanies them, chiefly infection. This is reduced by sterile single-use needle cartridges, careful technique and following your aftercare. Allergic or irritant reactions are uncommon. Because exosomes work by signalling to cells, anyone with an active cancer diagnosis or on immunosuppressive treatment is assessed individually and may be advised not to go ahead.
Aftercare
- Avoid touching your face for the rest of the day
- No makeup for 24 hours
- Cleanse gently with water or a mild cleanser for the first 24 hours
- Avoid exercise, saunas, swimming and direct sun for 48 hours
- Avoid acids, retinoids and exfoliants for around five days
- Wear a broad-spectrum SPF every day

Questions
Are exosomes injected?
No. At Avismo, Purasomes exosome complexes are applied to the skin straight after a treatment such as microneedling, which helps them reach the deeper layers of the skin.
Is there good evidence for exosomes?
The early research is promising, especially for supporting recovery after microneedling, but the evidence is still emerging and more long-term studies are needed. We will always give you an honest view of what to expect.
How many sessions will I need?
A course of 3 treatments, 3 to 4 weeks apart, is usually recommended. A single session is £225 and a course of three is £600.
Does it hurt?
The exosome application itself is minimal. If you are having microneedling at the same time, numbing cream is applied first to keep you comfortable.
What is the downtime?
Usually very little. You may have mild redness or sensitivity for a day or so, and exosomes are designed to support the skin as it recovers.
Can exosomes help with thinning hair?
We offer the Purasomes HSC50+ Hair and Scalp Complex for thin and damaged hair. Hair loss has many causes, so your consultation will look at your history first and results cannot be guaranteed.
Do you see clients from Huntingdon, St Neots and Cambridge?
Yes. Avismo is on Edison Road in St Ives, and many of our clients travel in from Huntingdon, which is roughly 15 minutes away by car, and from St Neots and Cambridge, which are around 30 minutes. We also see a lot of people from the villages around St Ives, including Hemingford Grey, Houghton, Fenstanton and Somersham. Appointments can be booked online at a time that suits your journey.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to move or cancel your appointment, so the time can be offered to someone else. Deposits and late-cancellation terms are explained when you book through our online booking system.
