What is Morpheus8 Burst?
Morpheus8 Burst is an advanced fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling treatment designed to improve the appearance and quality of the skin while encouraging tissue contraction and remodelling.
Combining precision microneedling with radiofrequency energy, Morpheus8 Burst can deliver controlled thermal energy at multiple depths within the skin and the tissue beneath it. This makes it a versatile treatment for skin laxity, uneven texture, fine lines, acne scarring and changes in skin quality.

What can Morpheus8 Burst treat?
Morpheus8 Burst can be used for skin laxity and loss of firmness, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin texture, acne scarring, enlarged pores and the changes in skin quality that come with ageing. It can also be used on areas that need improved firmness and tissue contraction, including selected body areas where skin quality and laxity are a concern.
Because Morpheus8 Burst can deliver RF energy at several depths, treatment is adapted to the area being treated and the tissue we are aiming to reach.
How Morpheus8 Burst works
Very fine needles enter the skin to a set depth. Once they reach that depth, controlled bipolar RF energy is delivered into the surrounding tissue.
Burst technology allows RF energy to be delivered at multiple tissue depths during a single pulse. This creates controlled zones of heat within the tissue, stimulating the body's natural healing and remodelling response while also producing tissue contraction.
Over time, this process can encourage changes in collagen and elastin within the treated tissue, helping to improve skin firmness, texture and overall quality.
What makes Morpheus8 Burst different?
Traditional microneedling mainly creates controlled micro-injuries within the skin. Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency energy, so controlled heat can be introduced beneath the skin as well as at the dermal level.
The Burst function delivers energy across multiple depths in a single pulse, giving more flexibility when treating different layers of tissue. Different Morpheus8 tips are available, including ones designed for more targeted facial treatment, for resurfacing and for deeper treatment, and your practitioner will choose the configuration and settings that suit you.
Is Morpheus8 Burst suitable for me?
A consultation is essential before treatment. Morpheus8 Burst is not a treatment where the same settings are used on everyone. Your skin type, thickness, laxity, tissue quality, the area to be treated and any previous treatments are all considered.
We will also talk about your expectations and whether RF microneedling is the right treatment for your particular concern. If another treatment would suit you better, we will tell you.
After treatment and your results
Immediately afterwards the skin will usually look red and feel warm, similar to a strong sunburn. You may also have some swelling, sensitivity and small pinpoint marks where the needles entered the skin. Over the following days the skin may feel dry, rough or slightly swollen as it recovers.
Those early changes settle relatively quickly, but the deeper remodelling continues for weeks and months. You may notice an early improvement in texture and firmness, while the more significant changes develop as collagen remodelling takes place.
For that reason Morpheus8 Burst is not the treatment for an immediate, one-off transformation. It is about controlled treatment and a gradual improvement in skin quality.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your skin, the area being treated and the concern we are addressing. Some clients see an improvement after one treatment, but a course is generally recommended for more significant concerns such as acne scarring, skin laxity or overall skin remodelling.
Rather than automatically recommending a fixed number of sessions, we will assess your skin and create a treatment plan for you.

On the day
What happens at your appointment
- 01 Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared, and a topical local anaesthetic may be applied to improve comfort.
- 02 Your practitioner sets the tip, depth and energy for each area of your face or body.
- 03 The Morpheus8 handpiece delivers microneedling and RF energy to the selected area. The needles reach their set depth before the energy is released.
- 04 You may feel heat, pressure and a prickling sensation, which varies with the area, depth and settings used.
- 05 Afterwards your skin will look red and feel warm, and you will be given your personal aftercare before you leave.
Safety
What you need to know before Morpheus8 Burst
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- A pacemaker or internal defibrillator, or any other metal or electronic implant anywhere in the body
- A permanent implant in the treatment area, such as metal plates, screws, metal piercings or silicone
- Current or past skin cancer, any other current cancer, or pre-cancerous moles
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Serious health conditions, such as heart problems or sensory disturbances
- A weakened immune system, from conditions such as HIV or AIDS or from immunosuppressant medication
- Conditions triggered by heat, such as recurrent cold sores in the treatment area
- Poorly controlled hormonal conditions, such as diabetes or thyroid problems
- Any active skin condition in the treatment area, such as sores, psoriasis, eczema or a rash
- A history of skin disorders, keloid scarring or poor wound healing
- A bleeding or clotting disorder
- Isotretinoin (Accutane or Roaccutane) taken in the last 6 months
- Irritated or heavily tanned skin from the sun, sunbeds, tanning creams or sprays in the last 2 weeks, or plans to be in the sun in the next 2 to 4 weeks
Common and expected
- Redness for 1 to 3 days
- Some local swelling for up to a week
- Tiny needle marks or scabs, which usually last a few days
- Possible bruising
- A breakout, or dry or itchy skin
- A slightly bumpy look to the skin for a few days, sometimes up to a few weeks
Serious risks
Morpheus8 Burst is a medical aesthetic treatment and, although controlled and minimally invasive, it is not without risk. Potential side effects include prolonged redness or swelling, bruising, infection, changes in pigmentation, burns, scarring and textural changes. There is a risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in darker skin types or where the skin has recently been exposed to the sun, which is why settings are chosen for your skin type and careful aftercare matters. Your practitioner will talk you through the benefits, limitations and risks before treatment.
Aftercare
- Use an antiseptic product, such as Clinisept, straight after treatment and for up to 1 to 3 days, or until the needle marks have closed
- You can cool the skin to ease discomfort or heat, using a clean cooling method
- Use only lukewarm water and clean hands to wash your face on the first night
- Avoid make-up for 1 to 3 days, until the needle marks close. Only recommended make-up should be used until then, with new or clean applicators
- Avoid touching the treated area, and wash your hands first if you need to
- Avoid extra heat for 24 to 48 hours
- Once the marks have closed (1 to 3 days) you can go back to your usual gentle products, but avoid exfoliating or retinol products for 1 week
- Use a moisturiser with SPF 30 or higher every day once the marks have closed, for at least 4 weeks and ideally for good
- Avoid significant sun exposure and sunbeds for about 2 to 4 weeks
- Moisturise if the skin feels itchy while it heals, and do not pick any scabs
- Downtime is usually 1 or 2 days to a week, depending on the settings, your skin type and how your skin responds. Some people take longer

Questions
Is Morpheus8 Burst painful?
Some discomfort should be expected, as it is an energy-based treatment. A topical anaesthetic is normally applied first. During treatment you may feel pressure, heat, prickling and brief sharper sensations, and comfort varies between people and between areas. We would rather work at a comfortable, clinically appropriate level than increase the energy for the sake of intensity.
How long does the appointment take?
Around 45 to 90 minutes, including preparation and numbing time. Smaller areas take less time, while larger areas or combination treatments take longer. You will be given an estimate at your consultation.
What is the downtime?
Usually 1 or 2 days to a week, depending on the settings, your skin type and how your skin responds, and some people take a little longer. Expect redness for 1 to 3 days, some swelling for up to a week and tiny needle marks for a few days. Make-up is best avoided until the marks close, usually 1 to 3 days.
When will I see results?
You may notice an early improvement in texture and firmness as the first effects settle. The more significant changes develop gradually over the following weeks and months as the skin remodels.
Is this the radiofrequency microneedling you offered before?
Morpheus8 Burst is now our radiofrequency microneedling treatment, replacing the DermaForce system we used before. Its Burst technology delivers energy at several depths in a single pulse, and a range of tips lets us tailor treatment to each area.
Do I need a consultation first?
Your consultation is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. It is where we check your medical history, talk through what you would like to change, and agree a plan together.
I live in Huntingdon, St Neots or Cambridge. Is the clinic easy to reach?
Yes. Many of our clients travel in from Huntingdon, St Neots, Cambridge and the surrounding villages. The clinic is at 28 Edison Road, St Ives, PE27 3LF, about 15 minutes' drive from Huntingdon and around 30 minutes from St Neots and Cambridge, with plenty of parking on site.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to move or cancel your appointment, so the time can be offered to someone else. Deposits and late-cancellation terms are explained when you book through our online booking system.
