Can you get rid of these little red veins and spots?

Spider Veins and Vascular Lesion Treatment in St Ives

Thread veins, broken capillaries and small red spots are harmless for most people, but they can be frustrating. Several can be treated in clinic once we are sure they are suitable.

Vascular lesions and spider veins

Vascular lesions is the umbrella term for marks on the skin made by small blood vessels. The most common are spider veins and thread veins, the fine red, purple or blue lines that appear on the face, often around the nose and cheeks, and on the legs. Others include broken capillaries, cherry angiomas, the small bright red bumps many of us develop with age, and spider naevi, a central red dot with fine vessels spreading out from it.

They can be caused by genetics, sun damage, hormonal changes including pregnancy, rosacea, and long periods of standing. Most are a cosmetic concern rather than a medical one, but we always look at each one properly before recommending anything.

VasculazeMAX is a laser designed specifically for vascular concerns. Its energy is absorbed by the blood in the targeted vessel, which then gradually fades and is reabsorbed by the body over the following weeks. Fine veins on the face often respond well, while leg veins and larger vessels may need more than one session.

Where the redness is more widespread, for example across the cheeks with rosacea or sun damage, Lumecca Peak IPL treats a larger area at once. Cherry angiomas can also be treated with cryotherapy, a precise, controlled freeze, and we will explain which option suits each mark.

Treating existing veins does not stop new ones forming, so sun protection and, for legs, staying active help. Some people come back for a top-up every so often.

When this is not the answer. Large, raised, bulging or painful veins on the legs, or legs that ache, swell or itch, can be a sign of varicose veins or a circulation problem and should be checked by your GP. Laser treatment for small thread veins is not a treatment for varicose veins. Any spot that bleeds, changes or is new and growing should be checked before it is treated cosmetically.
