What is VasculazeMAX?
VasculazeMAX is an advanced vascular laser treatment from InMode, designed specifically to target the appearance of unwanted visible blood vessels. It can treat a range of superficial vascular concerns, including spider veins, telangiectasias, angiomas and certain vascular lesions.
At Avismo Aesthetics & Skin we use VasculazeMAX as part of a medically led approach to visible vascular concerns. Your skin and the vessels you would like treated are assessed carefully first, to make sure VasculazeMAX is right for you.
What can VasculazeMAX treat?
VasculazeMAX is designed for spider veins, small visible veins, telangiectasias, angiomas, certain vascular lesions and port-wine stains.
It is particularly suited to vascular concerns on areas such as the arms, thighs and lower legs, although suitability always depends on the individual vessel and the treatment area.
How VasculazeMAX works
VasculazeMAX uses targeted laser energy to heat and coagulate the blood within the selected vessel. The energy is preferentially absorbed by the blood, so the vessel can be targeted while the surrounding skin is protected as much as possible.
The body then naturally processes the treated vessel over time, gradually reducing its visibility. VasculazeMAX uses a 1064 nm wavelength with contact cooling to deliver controlled treatment to vascular lesions.
Is VasculazeMAX suitable for me?
A consultation is essential before treatment. Not every visible vein is suitable for laser treatment, and the appearance of a vessel does not necessarily tell us what type of vein it is.
We will assess the area, the appearance and characteristics of the vessels, your skin type and your medical history before recommending treatment.
After treatment and your results
Immediately after treatment the area may look red or slightly swollen. Depending on the vessel, it may become less visible straight away or fade gradually as the body processes it, and some vessels need more than one treatment to reach the improvement you would like.
Clinical research involving the Vasculaze handpiece has reported improvement in the appearance of vascular lesions, including changes seen at follow-up several months after treatment. Results vary between individuals and depend on the type, size and location of the vessels.
How many treatments will I need?
The number varies considerably. Some small superficial vessels show a significant improvement after one treatment, while others need a course.
It depends on the type of vessel, its size and depth, its location, your skin type, how many vessels are being treated and how your skin responds. We will assess your skin and give you a personalised recommendation rather than a set number of sessions.

On the day
What happens at your appointment
- 01 The treatment area is cleansed and prepared, and you are given protective eyewear.
- 02 The VasculazeMAX handpiece is applied to the area, with its contact cooling protecting the skin.
- 03 You may feel a brief warming, snapping or pinching sensation as the laser energy reaches each vessel.
- 04 Treatment time depends on the size and number of vessels, typically around 20 to 45 minutes.
- 05 The area may look red or slightly swollen afterwards, and you will be given aftercare advice, including about sun exposure and SPF.
Safety
What you need to know before VasculazeMAX
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- Under 18, unless a parent or guardian has given consent
- Saphenous vein insufficiency (a problem with the main veins of the leg)
- Current or past skin cancer, any other current cancer, or pre-cancerous moles
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- A weakened immune system, from conditions such as HIV or AIDS or from immunosuppressant medication
- Conditions triggered by heat, such as recurrent cold sores in the treatment area, which can only be treated after preventive medication
- Poorly controlled hormonal conditions, such as diabetes or thyroid problems
- Any active condition in the treatment area, such as sores, psoriasis, eczema or a rash
- A history of skin disorders, keloid scarring or poor wound healing, or very dry, fragile skin
- Serious health conditions, such as heart problems or sensory disturbances
- Isotretinoin (Accutane or Roaccutane) taken in the last 6 months
- Light-sensitive skin, or medication that makes the skin more sensitive to light
- Conditions that light can trigger, such as epilepsy, lupus or urticaria
- Recent light, laser or radiofrequency treatment on the same area, which needs a gap first
- A fresh tan from the sun, sunbeds or tanning products
- Vitiligo
Common and expected
- Temporary redness, swelling, warmth or sensitivity
- Changes in the appearance of treated vessels as they respond
- Temporary bruising or colour change
Serious risks
Although VasculazeMAX is non-invasive, laser treatment is not without risk. Possible side effects include temporary redness, swelling, discomfort, bruising and changes in pigmentation. Less common complications include blistering, burns, scarring or longer-lasting changes in skin colour. A vascular concern may also not respond as expected or may need more treatment. Your individual risks are discussed at your consultation before treatment.
Aftercare
- If the area feels warm, cool it with cool packs or cool, wet compresses
- Apply a soothing product, such as aloe vera
- Avoid hot baths, heat treatments and any other heat on the area for 24 hours
- Avoid aerobic exercise, which increases blood flow, and avoid rubbing the area for 24 hours
- Moisturiser and make-up can be used if the skin is unbroken
- If any blistering or crusting appears, apply an antibiotic preparation
- Avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks, and use SPF 30 or higher if the area is exposed to UV
- A compression garment can be worn for 1 to 2 weeks, but it is not essential

Questions
Is VasculazeMAX painful?
Most people describe a brief heat, snap or pinching sensation. It varies with the location, size and number of vessels and your own sensitivity, and contact cooling helps make treatment more comfortable.
How long does a session take?
It depends on the area and the number of vessels, typically around 20 to 45 minutes. You will get a more accurate estimate after your assessment.
Can every visible vein be treated?
No. Not every visible vein is suitable for laser treatment, and how a vessel looks does not always tell us what type of vein it is. We assess each one carefully first.
Is there any downtime?
VasculazeMAX is non-invasive and generally involves minimal downtime. You may have some temporary redness, swelling, warmth, bruising or colour change.
Do I need a consultation first?
Your consultation is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. It is where we check your medical history, talk through what you would like to change, and agree a plan together.
I live in Huntingdon, St Neots or Cambridge. Is the clinic easy to reach?
Yes. Many of our clients travel in from Huntingdon, St Neots, Cambridge and the surrounding villages. The clinic is at 28 Edison Road, St Ives, PE27 3LF, about 15 minutes' drive from Huntingdon and around 30 minutes from St Neots and Cambridge, with plenty of parking on site.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to move or cancel your appointment, so the time can be offered to someone else. Deposits and late-cancellation terms are explained when you book through our online booking system.
