Why clients travel from Cambridge

Cambridge has no shortage of clinics, so people who travel to us are usually looking for something particular. Avismo is a small, nurse-led team of three regulated healthcare professionals, so you get to know the people looking after you. Anything prescription-only is assessed and prescribed in person by Karen, our founder and independent nurse prescriber.

We are Save Face accredited, following an independent assessment of our training, clinical standards and patient care, and recommended in The Tweakments Guide. Our team is regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Health and Care Professions Council, which means we are accountable to professional bodies and follow their standards and codes of conduct.

Many Cambridge clients also like the practical side: appointments without city centre parking, a calm clinic, and time at every consultation to ask questions.

Getting to the clinic from Cambridge

The simplest route from Cambridge is the A14 west towards Huntingdon, leaving at the St Ives turn and following signs into the town. Edison Road is on the edge of St Ives, so there is no need to drive through the centre.

Allow around 30 to 35 minutes, and extra time at rush hour, as the A14 around Cambridge can be busy. We have plenty of parking on site, and we are happy to talk you through the last part of the journey if it is your first visit.

If you would rather not drive, the guided busway runs between Cambridge and St Ives. Check current timetables and allow for a short onward journey from the busway stop to Edison Road.

What Cambridge clients often book

Anti-wrinkle treatment and skin boosters are frequent bookings for clients who want to look fresher without looking different. Profhilo and polynucleotides are popular for improving skin quality, especially for busy professionals who want gradual results with little downtime.

We also see Cambridge clients for Map My Mole checks, where images of a mole are reviewed by a UK consultant dermatologist, and for SkinPen microneedling to improve texture and acne scarring. If you are unsure where to start, a facial skin analysis can help us build a plan around what your skin actually needs.

What a first visit looks like

Your first appointment is a free consultation, and there is no obligation to go ahead with anything. We start by talking through what you would like to change, what you have tried before, and your medical history, including any medication, allergies and previous treatments. This matters for safety and it helps us understand whether a treatment is right for you at all.

We then look closely at your skin and face, often in different lighting, and explain what we can see. If you would like more detail, a facial skin analysis with the MC10 system shows what is happening beneath the surface. From there we suggest a plan, explain how each option works, what results are realistic, how long they tend to last, the possible side effects and the cost, so you can decide in your own time.

Prescription-only treatments, such as anti-wrinkle injections, are only prescribed after a face-to-face consultation with Karen, who is an independent nurse prescriber, and the treatment itself always takes place on a different day. Some other treatments can be carried out on the same day if it is appropriate and you are comfortable, and others need a patch test or a separate appointment. Either way, you will leave knowing exactly what the next step would be.

Questions

Do you have a clinic in Cambridge?

No. Our only clinic is at 28 Edison Road in St Ives, around 30 to 35 minutes' drive from Cambridge along the A14.

Can I get to you without a car?

Yes. The guided busway links Cambridge and St Ives. Please check the current timetable and allow time for the short journey from the stop to the clinic.

Are your practitioners medically qualified?

Yes. Karen is a registered nurse and independent nurse prescriber, Lorna is an HCPC-registered operating department practitioner, and Andrea is a registered nurse with over 40 years of experience.

Do I need a consultation before treatment?

Yes. Every new client has a free consultation first, so we can check your medical history, understand your goals and make sure a treatment is suitable and safe for you.

Can you check a mole for me?

Yes, through Map My Mole. We take dermoscope images in clinic and they are reviewed by a UK consultant dermatologist, usually within 24 to 48 hours. Our nurses do not diagnose, and any concerning lesion is referred to your GP or a dermatologist.

Not sure where to start?

Your consultation is free and there is no obligation to book anything afterwards. Tell us what you would like to change and we will talk you through the options honestly, including when the answer is to wait.
