What skin boosters do
Skin boosters deliver hyaluronic acid just beneath the surface of the skin, where it attracts and holds water. The effect is deep, lasting hydration that helps skin look smoother, more radiant and more supple.
Unlike dermal fillers, skin boosters are not designed to add volume or alter the shape of your face. They focus on the quality of the skin itself, which makes them a good fit for dull, dehydrated or tired-looking skin, and for fine lines that come from dryness rather than movement.
At Avismo we use Redensity I from Teoxane, a hyaluronic acid skin booster that also contains amino acids, antioxidants and minerals to support the skin.
Where they can be used
Skin boosters can be used on the face, neck, décolletage and the backs of the hands. These areas are exposed to the sun and the weather every day, and often show dryness and crepiness early on.
Fine lines around the eyes and mouth can also benefit, as can skin that simply looks flat or lacklustre. Skin boosters are suitable for all skin types.
If you are looking for firming as well as hydration, Profhilo or polynucleotides may also be worth discussing. We will help you decide which approach suits your skin.
Your course of treatment
A course of two to three treatments, spaced a few weeks apart, is typically recommended to build hydration gradually. We offer Redensity I in 1ml and 3ml options, each available as a single treatment or as a course of three at a reduced price.
Once the course is complete, results usually last around six to nine months, depending on the product used and the condition of your skin. Many people pair skin boosters with a good home skincare routine to help maintain the result.
Skin boosters at Avismo in St Ives
Treatments are carried out by Karen, a registered nurse since 2000 and a nurse prescriber who has specialised in medical aesthetics since 2014, or by Lorna, an HCPC-registered operating department practitioner. Avismo is Save Face accredited and was recommended in The Tweakments Guide in January 2026.
Each appointment takes around 30 minutes, which makes it straightforward to fit in if you live in St Ives or are visiting from Huntingdon.

Safety
What you need to know before skin boosters
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active infection, cold sores or inflamed skin at the treatment site
- Known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine, or a history of anaphylaxis
- Autoimmune conditions or immunosuppressive treatment, assessed individually
- Dental work or vaccinations within two weeks either side of treatment
Common and expected
- Mild redness at the injection sites
- Small bumps, which usually settle within a few days
- Mild swelling or bruising
Serious risks
Serious complications are rare with skin boosters, as the product is placed very superficially. There is a small risk of infection, and, as with any injectable hyaluronic acid, a very rare risk of product affecting a blood vessel. Hyaluronidase is kept on site, and you are given a number to call if you have any concerns after treatment.
Aftercare
- Avoid touching or massaging the treated area for the rest of the day
- No makeup over the injection points for twelve hours
- No alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 hours
- No facials, peels or other treatments over the area for two weeks
- Use a high SPF sunscreen daily while your skin recovers

Questions
Are skin boosters the same as filler?
No. Both use hyaluronic acid, but skin boosters are designed to hydrate and improve skin quality rather than add volume or change your shape.
How many treatments will I need?
A course of two to three treatments, a few weeks apart, is typically recommended. We offer a course of three at a reduced price.
How long do results last?
Around six to nine months after a course, depending on the product used and your skin.
Does it hurt?
You may feel mild discomfort. Numbing cream can be applied beforehand to make you more comfortable.
What is the difference between the 1ml and 3ml options?
The larger amount allows a wider area to be treated, such as the face together with the neck or décolletage. We will recommend the right amount at your consultation.
Do I need a consultation first?
Your consultation is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. It is where we check your medical history, talk through what you would like to change, and agree a plan together.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to move or cancel your appointment, so the time can be offered to someone else. Deposits and late-cancellation terms are explained when you book through our online booking system.
Do you see clients from Huntingdon, St Neots and Cambridge?
Yes. The clinic is at 28 Edison Road, St Ives, PE27 3LF, roughly 15 minutes' drive from Huntingdon and around 30 minutes from St Neots and Cambridge.
