What will actually soften the lines on my face?
Lines and Wrinkles Treatment in St Ives
Not every line is the same, and the treatment that softens one kind can do very little for another. The first job is working out which lines you have.
Dynamic lines are the ones that appear when you move: forehead lines when you raise your brows, the frown between them when you concentrate, and crow's feet when you smile. They come from repeated muscle movement folding the skin in the same place. Anti-wrinkle treatment relaxes the muscles responsible, so the skin above them folds less and the lines soften. It is a prescription-only treatment, so Karen, as an independent nurse prescriber, assesses you face to face before anything is prescribed.
Static lines are there even when your face is at rest. They usually started as dynamic lines and, over years of movement, sun exposure and collagen loss, have become etched into the skin. Relaxing the muscle can stop them getting deeper, but it will not fully erase a crease that is already set. These respond better to treatments that rebuild the skin itself, such as SkinPen microneedling, polynucleotides and platelet rich plasma (PRP), which encourage your skin to produce new collagen over a course of sessions.
Fine, crepey lines across the cheeks or around the eyes are often a sign of thinning, dehydrated skin rather than muscle activity. Skin boosters and polynucleotides improve hydration and skin quality, which can make fine lines less noticeable and help makeup sit better.
Deeper folds, such as the lines from nose to mouth, are often caused by loss of support rather than by the skin creasing. We cover those under volume loss and sagging, because treating them as a line problem tends to give a heavier result than restoring support where it has been lost.
Fine lines and crepey texture can also be treated without injections. Morpheus8 Burst combines fine microneedles with radiofrequency energy to firm and smooth the skin from within, treating several depths in a single pulse, and results build over the following months as new collagen forms.
Most faces have a mix of all of these, so a plan often combines two or three treatments over time rather than repeating one. Results are gradual and vary from person to person, and we will be honest at your free consultation about what each option can and cannot do for your lines.
When this is not the answer. Anti-wrinkle treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain neuromuscular conditions. We will check your medical history carefully and suggest a different approach if it is not right for you.
