How it worksWhat hyaluronic acid filler does
Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body already makes. It holds water, which is why filler made from it can hydrate and support the skin as well as add volume, and your body breaks it down gradually over months, which is why results are temporary.
Used well, filler can soften deeper lines, fill hollows, define a jawline or chin, restore volume to the cheeks and add shape or hydration to the lips. The fillers we use contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, and numbing cream can be applied beforehand for comfort.
Hyaluronic acid filler can also be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if it ever needs to be. We offer dissolving as a treatment in its own right, including for filler placed elsewhere, after assessment.
Treating the cause, not just the line
Facial ageing is not one single change. Bone gradually recedes, fat pads shrink and move, and skin loses some of its elasticity, all at different rates. A deep line beside the mouth is often the result of support lost higher up in the cheek, rather than a problem in the line itself.
That is why we look at your whole face before suggesting where filler should go. Sometimes a small amount in the cheek gives a softer, more natural result than filling a line directly. Sometimes the right answer is a different treatment entirely, or none at all.
Plans are built around your facial structure and what you would like to achieve, with the aim of looking refreshed rather than done.
The products we use
We use established hyaluronic acid ranges from Teoxane (the RHA collection, including RHA Kiss for lips) and Croma (Saypha). Different products have different textures and flexibility, so the choice depends on the area being treated and how much movement that area needs to handle.
For lips, the options range from a subtle 0.7ml treatment for hydration and definition to fuller products for more shape. We will explain why we are recommending a particular product and how much, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Filler at Avismo is carried out by Karen, our founder, who has worked in medical aesthetics since 2014, holds a Level 7 qualification in aesthetic medicine and is a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert (ACE) Group, or by Lorna, an HCPC-registered operating department practitioner. Safety
What you need to know before dermal filler
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active infection, cold sores or inflamed skin at the treatment site
- Known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine, or a history of anaphylaxis
- Autoimmune conditions or immunosuppressive treatment, assessed individually
- Dental work or vaccinations within two weeks either side of treatment
Common and expected
- Swelling, redness and tenderness for two to five days
- Bruising, which can take up to two weeks to settle
- Small firm areas that soften over the first fortnight
Serious risks
The most serious risk with any dermal filler is vascular occlusion, where product blocks or compresses a blood vessel. It is rare, and it is the reason filler should only ever be given by a medical professional trained to recognise and treat it. At Avismo hyaluronidase, the enzyme that dissolves filler, is kept on site, and you are given a direct number to call straight away if you notice unusual pain, whitening or mottling of the skin, or any change in your vision.
Aftercare
- Avoid touching or massaging the area for the rest of the day
- No makeup over the injection points for twelve hours
- No alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 hours
- No facials, peels or other treatments over the area for two weeks
- Sleep slightly elevated for the first night or two if you swell easily
- Contact the clinic straight away if you notice unusual pain, whitening or mottling of the skin

Questions
How do I know which area to treat?
You do not need to decide in advance. Your consultation is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. It is where we check your medical history, talk through what you would like to change, and agree a plan together.
Is it painful?
Most people describe mild discomfort. The fillers we use contain lidocaine, and numbing cream can be applied beforehand to make you more comfortable.
How long does filler last?
Typically between 6 and 18 months. It depends on the area treated, the product used and your own metabolism. Areas that move a lot, such as the lips, tend to break it down sooner.
Will it look natural?
That is always the aim. We work with your facial structure and prefers to build gradually, rather than using more product than you need.
Can filler be reversed?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. We offer dissolving at £200 following an assessment.
What happens if something goes wrong?
Serious complications are rare. Our injectors are trained to recognise and manage them, hyaluronidase is kept on site, and you are given a number to call straight away if you are worried after your appointment.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to move or cancel your appointment, so the time can be offered to someone else. Deposits and late-cancellation terms are explained when you book through our online booking system.
Do you see clients from Huntingdon, St Neots and Cambridge?
Yes. The clinic is at 28 Edison Road, St Ives, PE27 3LF, roughly 15 minutes' drive from Huntingdon and around 30 minutes from St Neots and Cambridge. We also welcome clients from the villages around St Ives, such as the Hemingfords, Houghton, Fenstanton and Somersham.
