Lip Filler in St Ives: What to Expect, What It Costs and How to Choose a Clinic

Thinking about lip filler in St Ives? How a nurse-led appointment works at Avismo, the products and prices, how long it lasts and what to look for in a clinic.

Lip Filler in St Ives: What to Expect, What It Costs and How to Choose a Clinic

Lip filler is one of the treatments we are asked about most at the clinic on Edison Road, and one of the most misunderstood. People often picture overfilled lips and assume that is what filler does. Done well, it is the opposite: a little more definition, a softer edge, a lip that looks hydrated rather than enlarged. This is how a lip filler appointment works at Avismo, what it costs, and what to look for if you are comparing clinics in St Ives.

What lip filler actually is

The fillers we use are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance your body already produces. It holds water, which is why a small amount in the lip adds hydration and shape, and your body breaks it down gradually over months, which is why the result is temporary. The products contain a local anaesthetic, and numbing cream can be applied beforehand, so most people describe the treatment as mild discomfort rather than pain.

What lip filler can do: restore definition to the border, balance a top lip with the bottom, smooth fine vertical lines, add gentle volume, or simply make dry, thin lips look healthier. What it should not do is change the shape of your face. If you have seen results you do not like, that is usually a product or placement decision, not something filler has to do.

Products and prices

We use two established ranges, the Teoxane RHA collection and Croma Saypha. They behave differently, and the lips move a lot, so the choice matters. Current lip filler prices in St Ives at Avismo:

  • RHA Kiss, 0.7ml, £200. A soft, subtle product for hydration and definition. The usual starting point if you want people to notice you look well rather than notice your lips.
  • Croma Saypha Lips or RHA 2, £220. A touch more shape and volume while still moving naturally when you talk and smile.
  • RHA 3, £250. For more structure where it is wanted, still placed conservatively.

We will tell you which product we are recommending and why, so you know exactly what you are paying for. There is no pressure to go bigger. In most cases we would rather build gradually over two visits than use more than you need in one.

What happens at your appointment

Every plan starts with a free consultation. It is where we go through your medical history, look at your whole face rather than just the lips, and agree what we are trying to achieve. If lip filler is not the right answer for you, or not yet, you will be told so.

On the day of treatment you can expect:

  • Photographs for your records, so you can see the change properly afterwards
  • Consent, including the risks, the alternatives and the aftercare
  • Numbing cream if you want it, then careful placement of the filler
  • Written aftercare and a direct contact number for the team

Allow 45 to 60 minutes. The result is visible straight away, and it settles over the following two weeks as any swelling goes down.

Downtime and aftercare

Lips swell more than most areas, so plan for it. Swelling, redness and tenderness for two to five days is normal, and the first morning can look like more than you asked for. Bruising is possible and can take up to two weeks to fade fully. Small firm spots usually soften over the first fortnight.

For the best result: avoid touching or massaging your lips for the rest of the day, no makeup over the injection points for twelve hours, no alcohol, hard exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 hours, and no facials or peels over the area for two weeks. If you swell easily, sleep slightly propped up for the first night or two. If you are planning lip filler before a wedding or a holiday, book it at least three weeks ahead.

How long does lip filler last?

Hyaluronic acid filler lasts between 6 and 18 months depending on the area, the product and your own metabolism. Because the lips move constantly, they tend to sit at the shorter end of that range. Many clients come back once or twice a year for a top-up with less product than the first time.

How to choose a lip filler clinic in St Ives

Filler is not regulated in the UK the way most people assume, and anyone can legally offer it. So the questions to ask before you book anywhere are worth more than the price list.

  • Who is holding the needle? At Avismo, filler is carried out by Karen, a registered nurse and independent prescriber who has worked in medical aesthetics since 2014 and holds a Level 7 qualification in aesthetic medicine, or by Lorna, an HCPC-registered operating department practitioner. You can read about the team before you come in.
  • What happens if something goes wrong? The most serious risk with any filler is product blocking a blood vessel. It is rare, but it is the reason filler should only be given by a medical professional trained to recognise and treat it. Karen is a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group, and filler dissolving is offered at the clinic after assessment.
  • Do they look before they inject? We can scan with handheld ultrasound before placing filler to see where the blood vessels run and plan around them. It is still unusual in aesthetic clinics. More on ultrasound-guided injections.
  • Is the clinic inspected? Avismo is Save Face accredited, which means the clinic, the practitioner and the paperwork have been checked against a national standard, and it is recommended in The Tweakments Guide.
  • What do real clients say? Our Google reviews are all from clients of the clinic, and the before and after photos on the site are our own work, shared with permission.

Not sure lip filler is what you need?

Quite often someone books in asking about their lips and leaves with a different plan. Fine lines around the mouth, a downturned corner or a loss of support in the cheeks can all change how the lips look, and filler in the lip itself is not always the answer. If you would like a steer before you book, our one-minute treatment finder will point you towards the options that suit you, and the consultation is free whatever you decide.

We see clients for lip filler from St Ives, Huntingdon, St Neots and Cambridge. The clinic is at 28 Edison Road, St Ives, by appointment only.

General information, not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Suitability is decided in person after an assessment, and the consultation for that is free.
